Tempting Danger by Katie Reus

This is the second book in a series. It worked fine as a standalone, but there were definitely previous relationships between the characters from book one that would have added to my enjoyment of the stories had I read it. I love Katie Reus, so I knew this would be good. I don't typically like novellas since they are over too fast with my reading speed, but I can't resist Katie Reus's Red Stone Security. My experience with that series is what made me try this book.

Alena is pregnant with Andre's baby. She believes he wants nothing to do with her, so she has been waiting to contact him. She developed feelings for him even though she started out planning to just use him. When he kicked her out of his life she believed they were done. Andre, on the other hand, hasn't forgotten Alena. He has been keeping track of her and thinking about his feelings toward her. When he discovers they are having a baby, he swoops in and takes charge and does what he can to take care of her. In the end, it may take a danger from the past returning to make both Alena and Andre realize what they really want.

Murder on the Sugarland Express by Angie Fox

I've been a fan of this series from the beginning, and I love times like these when I find them on Net Galley and can get an ARC. This series is just fun. Verity takes a licking and keeps on ticking. She is constantly struggling and getting hit with more bad news. Just as things are looking up, and she and Ellis have a fun train ride planned for just the two of them, their plans are derailed by interfering family and ghosts...not to mention a murder. It's a crazy ghostly adventure as always.

Ellis remains a favorite of mine, and even Beau showed some redeeming qualities. I'm ready for the next book and to see Verity and Ellis even more serious.

Redemption at Hawk's Landing by Rita Herron

Honey has always been the source of scorn in her hometown due to suspicions surrounding her family and accusations from the townspeople. She left as soon as she could and worked hard to prove she was more than what everyone thought. She had no desire to ever return until her father's death draws her back home. Now that she's back, Harrison plans to take advantage of the situation and investigate her father's possible involvement in his sister's disappearance years ago. Honey finds him attractive, but his mother has been the primary source of venom directed at Honey. Harrison is attracted to Honey as well, and when she become the focus of hateful attacks, Harrison intends to protect her regardless of what his mother thinks or what her father might have done.

The story had nice chemistry and plenty of action. The name Honey distracted me a bit though because I couldn't stop thinking about my favorite childhood series, Trixie Belden, and the only other character named Honey I've ever encountered.

Close Contact by Lori Foster

I love Lori Foster, and I was so glad when she started this series with some of my favorite fighters from her previous books. Miles has just started working for Body Armor when the woman who gave him the best nights of his life then left without a word shows up at his work a mess of her usual self. She needs his protection, and even though he is furious with her and doesn't really trust her, he still wants her. Someone has been gaslighting her and it has turned dangerous. She needs protection, and she will only trust Miles.

This story had so many of my past favorite characters along with really nice steamy scenes, a lot of suspense, and some nicely done misdirection. I'm so ready to get Sahara's and Brand's story next!

Tempted and Taken by Rhenna Morgan

I will start by saying that I've never read this author, so obviously I didn't read the first 3 books in this series. That said, this worked great as a standalone, and I liked the other characters so much that I plan to go back and grab the ones I missed. The guys of Haven are not related, yet they are brothers. There were so many of them, and I liked them all so much! Knox was a suspicious tech guru. When Darya approached him about a job opportunity, he wasn't taking her at face value. He suspected there was more to the story, and he was right. Darya had some big dangerous secrets, and she wasn't willing to expose anyone else to them even though she has admired Knox from afar for a while.

Knox finds himself instantly attracted to Darya, but he doesn't trust her. He agrees to mentor her while secretly keeping an eye on her. He even vets her with his family of choice who really around her. Darya is no shy wallflower, so it doesn't take long for her to convince Knox they are a good idea and take things to a more steamy level. Now that he doesn't want to be without her, Knox and his family have to find a way to keep Darya safe before she runs again.

Wingman by Emmy Curtis

I am loving this series! The super strong ladies excelling in male dominated military professions are phenomenal. This story can be read as a standalone since it happens concurrently with book one, just from a different perspective. I do highly recommend reading book one since it was phenomenal.

Missy is a weapons specialist flying with a pilot she had been in love with for a while. She knows it can be professionally damaging, but it really doesn't matter since Conrad treats her like a buddy and keeps things pretty superficial. His focus is on his career pretty much to the exclusion of all else. It takes Missy requesting a transfer and facing criminal charges for him to finally realize she means something to him and to start fighting for her. Though Missy isn't sure Conrad is really relationship material, she has wanted him for too long to resist their chemistry. Their situation makes for some very interesting encounters. The playground was a favorite.

I'm so ready for more of this series. I'm dying tho know what is really going on and to get stories for some of the other characters. I'd love to read more about The Animal.

Call to Redemption by Tawny Weber

Someone really wants to take down Poseidon, and Nic is an obstacle in their way who needs to be taken down. The weapon of choice is his reputation and that of his team. He is being branded a traitor, and the woman he hated to leave after a spectacularly steamy vacation fling is at the prosecutor's table. He was hoping to continue his connection with Darby, but since they never shared last names, he had no way of knowing if he'd ever see her again.

Darby can make a name for herself on this case if she ignores the the thoughts running through her head telling her that Nic would never do what all the evidence points to. With some serious pressure from above, she can't make a mistake, and trusting Nic could be the biggest mistake of all.

I loved Nic and the respect he is given by his men because of his loyalty to them. They trust he will always be there for them, and they will do no less for him. Nic will need all the help he can get to keep himself and Darby alive.

This was my second book in this series. I really want to go back and read book one soon. I enjoy books that have a nicely convoluted plot like this one.
