This series has quickly become one of my favorites. While this book could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading them in order. The history from the previous books is a big part of what makes this particular story great. Things ended awkwardly between Mason and Rachel in the last book and started that way in this story. Rachel was struggling with determining what she truly wanted versus what she had simply imagined at one time her life would be. Mason, on the other hand, seems sure what he wants is Rachel despite her struggle to commit. Unfortunately, a heroic act on Mason's part leaves his nephews in need of care and Rachel the only one trusted to provide it. Over the course of the story, Rachel grows and changes so much. She realizes how lonely her life is without Mason and his boys, while Mason attempts to give her the space he believes she needs. Among all this, danger lurks. A stalker has become obsessed with Mason and believes the only way to have him is to get rid of anyone her loves...like Rachel and his nephews. With Mason injured and the boys' mentally ill mother on the loose, matters quickly become dangerously complicated.
I really enjoyed this novel. My favorite aspect of this series is the realism. The action and suspense are always great, but within the believable constraints of reality. The way Rachel and Mason work to form an unconventional family while coping with major life changing events is great to read. I appreciate Net Galley providing an advance copy for honest review.
