I was hooked into this story from the very beginning. Having never read this author, I wasn't sure what to expect, but it certainly got right into the heart of the story from page one where Aya is experiencing a murder through the eyes and psyche of the killer...the killer she believes to be herself. The police, especially Will who is assigned to her case, aren't so sure. After nights of refusing to sleep for fear that sleep would bring on another killing, Aya is a wreck when she arrives at the police station. Her ravaged appearance doesn't keep Will from being instantly attracted to her. The sexual overtones of Aya's killing visions have her in a sense of heightened awareness that she doesn't want but can't change. Will kicks her senses into overdrive. Despite the attraction, Will has no choice but to treat Aya as the killer she claims to be until he can prove otherwise. Surprisingly, the police's staff doctor has some pat experience with Aya and her family. He believes her visions may simply be a psychic type link to the killer, and her has a very unorthodox theory about how to prove it. If Aya is a killer, Will will be placing himself at risk, if she is innocent, he may be making her the next target.
This was a creepy but super sexy story. Parts of it were definitely outside of the realm of what could happen in regard to police procedure and tactics, but it's not like we read paranormal suspense for the reality of it anyway, right? I liked that it never slowed down, and it kept my attention throughout.
I received an ARC from Net Galley for review.
