Incriminating Evidence by Rachel Grant

I absolutely loved this book. It is the fourth book in this series, and in my opinion, it is the best. All the books in this series have been wonderful, but this one grabbed me from the first page. The story begins as Isabel finds Alec unconscious in the Alaskan wilderness. She manages to save his life, but has she risked her own life and safety by doing so? Immediately upon awakening, Alec (whose memory has been affected) accuses Isabel of being his attacker. This begins a back and forth attack and retreat between these two even as they fight the heavy pull of attraction they both feel. Isabel wants to uncover the plot that ended in her brother's death, and she believes Alec is behind the cover up. Alec insists he has been doing everything he can to help.  Both retain their suspicions of each other.

Strange and dangerous things begin to happen. When Isabel is attacked with what appears to be two experimental weapons, Alec takes her back to the Raptor compound. He has been keeping her away, but it is the place where her brother died and the one place she wants to be. Unfortunately for her, once she is on the compound, the danger only escalates. Can she and Alec settle their differences and work together to find the weapons and the people wielding them, or is trying to work together only going to get them both killed?

This story was really well written and kept the action and suspense moving from the very beginning all the way until the end. The romance was also extremely sexy. Isabel was quirky and sassy with a soft insecure center. Alec was the " king tiger" in his domain. He was a total in charge alpha but with a devilishly charming way about him. I was completely enchanted by him. Characters from the previous books made appearances which added to the story for me. I am completely thrilled to have gotten a copy from Net Galley for review!

Spirits, Stilettos, and a Silver Bustier by Deanna Chase

Even though I have only read book one of the Jade Calhoun series from which this book spins off, I found this story easy to follow. Pyper was fun and funky with a style all her own and a very open mind. She had been in love with a ghost for a while. Even though she doesn't really see a future, she can't resist their chemistry when he is able to appear in human form.  The ghost is named Julius. He is very dapper and sexy in an understated way. He shows up as Pyper is searching for the perfect vintage dress. Unfortunately for her, when she returns to the store later in the day, the store's owner is dead, and Pyper becomes a prime suspect. Julius and her friends step in to help her solve the crime. The more they investigate, the more connections they find to the past, and even to the event which took Julius's life. The connection between Julius and Pyper continues to grow and deepen with no real future in sight.

Eventually, the couple discovers they are hunting someone who steals power from others, and Pyper's power is on his list. Can her ghost boyfriend save her in time, and what consequences will it have on his existence?

I really enjoyed this story and absolutely plan to continue the series.

Breath of Scandal by Sandra Brown

This was not an author I was familiar with. When I requested the book on Net Galley, it was listed as previously published but new to digital. I have to say that the writing style  didn't show its age despite the jumping around between timelines and storylines at the beginning. The story stretches through the seventies and on into the nineties. Fortunately though, besides the obvious lack of personal electronics, such as cell phones, the story did not read at all dated to me. I admit having difficulty connecting to the story at first due to the different time lines, but once it got to"present day", I was completely sucked in. The author gives multiple perspectives which let you know just what everyone is thinking.

The characters were well written and very believable. The different personalities were so complex. The villains were especially well done. The story was small town politics at its worst. It surprised me at every turn. Just when I would think I had something figured out, I discovered I didn't. I really enjoyed the twists and turns and the ultimate redemption.

Consumed by Fire by Anne Stuart

Although I realize this author had been popular for a while, this was my first experience with her writing. I admit I was not immediately hooked. Neither James nor Evangeline were soft likable characters. I had a very hard time connecting at first. Since I received an advance copy from Net Galley for review, I felt obligated to keep reading. Suddenly, I found myself drawn into the story. Evangeline drew my sympathy, and the storyline began to make me curious. James was not a nice man. He had a soft spot of sorts for Evangeline, but even this man's soft spot wasn't really soft. As the story develops, the couple focuses on the physical and completely denies any presence of emotions. With killers closing in from a couple of different fronts, James gives Evangeline no choice but to comply with his plans. He doesn't mind threatening her or even getting slightly physical to keep her safe and in his possession. This was definitely not your typical romantic suspense or love story. It was raw, dark, and completely outside the norm. The ending was perfect though. I enjoyed it despite my initial hesitancy.

Win by Submission by Melynda Price

This book was my first experience with this author. The synopsis sounded interesting, so I decided to give it a try. The basis of the story is Cole's recovery from an injury which may have ended his career as a cage fighter. His trainer sends him to his niece for PT without disclosing that she has some major problems of her own. Katie's troubles become readily apparent when the violently abusive ex she had been hiding from shows up and interrupts her dinner out with Cole. As he slowly pulls answers to his questions out of Katie, Cole determines to protect her. In the meantime, he begins to fall for her despite her emotional difficulties. Katie had convinced herself that she would never want another man, but she can't deny how Cole makes her feel.

This story had a lot of suspense and action accented by some very sexy chemistry. I enjoyed it and would definitely read more by this author. I appreciate receiving a copy for review from Net Galley.
