The Kill Shot by Nichole Christoff

In the first book of this series, Jamie ends up doing a favor for her ex husband. This time, it is her senator father who is asking for her help. He really doesn't give her a choice in the matter, and Jamie finds her date with Adam interrupted and her butt in a seat on a plane bound for London. Jamie is accompanying a diplomatic envoy on a mission to retrieve a defecting scientist. As soon as the plane touches down, the action takes off. Unfortunately, this assignment is even more dangerous than Jamie's last. As she works to get the scientist out of the country, she encounters not only danger but her old friend, Philip, who is a high ranking official in the British government. Philip and Jamie definitely have some chemistry, but to complicate matters, Jamie spots Adam apparently undercover in London as well. Philip and Adam both plant doubts about each other, but which one is manipulating her and which one just wants to keep her safe? I totally enjoy this series and these characters. Jamie can take care of herself and speaks her mind without being hard. The story had lots of action and plenty of twists to keep the reader guessing. I recommend it highly, but while it can be read as a standalone, it will have a much bigger impact if you read The Kill List first. Thanks go to Net Galley for providing a copy of this book.

Dubiosity by Christy Barritt

This author was a new one for me. I liked the slight edginess of her style and that she didn't turn everything into sunshine and rainbows just because it was Christian fiction. The characters were flawed but ultimately redeemable. I was able to understand the struggles of the two main characters, Clive and Savannah, and appreciate their thought processes and actions as Savannah buried herself under a mountain of guilt and Clive worked to overcome a desire for revenge and a need for secrets. The two had much in common but had responded in very different ways. Their attraction to each other was immediate, but they took things very slowly and spent most of their time trying to dodge the attacks of a killer. The book had a lot of action and a realistic and believable feel to the spiritual aspects. I really enjoyed it.

Winter at the Door by Sarah Graves

This was my first experience with this author. While the writing style was a bit different than I usually read, I liked it. It had a lot of procedural aspects but also plenty of suspense and action. A couple of possible love interests throw some spice into the mix as well without taking things much beyond a bit of good chemistry. The main character, Lizzie, is a big city homicide detective turned small town community liaison in an effort to use her job as a vehicle to track down her young niece who has been missing for several years. Dylan is a state cop who Lizzie suspects may have drawn her to the area under false pretenses in order to resume a former relationship gone very wrong. Unfortunately, she still found him hard to resist. Trey is an apparently wealthy veterinarian who openly showed an interest in Lizzie and inspired a few return sparks from her at times. Both men help Lizzie in their own ways but also cause her suspicions to run wild.

A killer and a kidnapper are on the loose. Lizzie finds herself tracking both. Are they connected or separate incidences? Is Lizzie's niece the little blond girl some are reporting they have seen? Is the killer going to target Lizzie next? These are all questions answered in the story. I liked the characters and will be ready to check out the next book sometime soon.

Dead No More by L.R. Nicolello

I absolutely loved the first book in this series, Dead Don't Lie, so when the opportunity to read this book came up, there was no way I could pass it up. This story features Derek, the brother of the first story's hero. Derek is an agent with a top secret intelligence type agency, the same agency Lily walked away from just over a year earlier after her partner/fiance almost succeeded in killing her. Lily has regretted losing the job she loved, so when Derek offered her an opportunity to"get back in the game", she didn't pass it up. Derek stirs up feelings in Lily that she thought were long dead. She tries to resist, but Derek doesn't make it easy with all his cute winks and charming smiles. Both Derek and Lily are fierce operatives with a strong sense of honor and family. When things all go crazy, Lily's adopted family and Derek's brother and sister in law step in to round out their team. Unfortunately, Lily's former partner keeps dropping in to harass and throw her of track complicating matters further. In the meantime, a terrorist bent on destroying the U.S. has a plot in the works and Lily in his sights.

I loved this book every bit as much as the first one and can't wait to see what's coming next. L.R. Nicolello has totally made my favorite author list. Fortunately, Net Galley provided a copy of this book for review. 😃

The Deputy's Redemption by Delores Fossen

I have read most of the Sweetwater Ranch series and really enjoy these characters, especially the brothers. Colt and Elise have known each other since they played together and teased each other as children. Though Elise has been gone for a few years, she has recently returned home to attempt to build up her family's old ranch. Unfortunately, it seems trouble has followed her. With a lawyer pushing her to testify against Colt's father, a former tenant vandalizing her property, and a criminal brother and sister team making threats, Elise has no idea what direction she should look too find the person responsible for the rising attacks on her life and Colt's. In the meantime, the chemistry between Colt and Elise fires back to life and proves to be a potent distraction. The ongoing story of Colt's mother's murder trial continues through this book and becomes even more complicated. I am really interested to see what happens as this storyline continues in the next book.

Against the Sky by Kat Martin

This was a quick easy read set primarily set in the adventurous state of Alaska. The end of the book had plenty of action and suspense. The chemistry between the main couple was good despite their constant back and forth waffling. They couldn't have been more different, but they eventually made compromises in order to stay together. I enjoyed the secondary characters and can see how they could easily play into future books.

No Place to Hide by Shannon Stacey

Okay, so I am definitely going to have to read more of the Devlin group. This was my first book by this author. Though there was some history between this couple I would have liked to have, I didn't feel lost at all and was able to read this as a standalone. The story had a lot of action and kicked off right at the beginning of the story. Chemistry was great between the couple even though Jack was fighting what Isabelle knew was a foregone conclusion. Isabelle was a trooper throughout all the trouble they had to deal with. She was a strong woman who knew what she wanted, and after all she had survived in the past, she was not going to left Jack get away this time. Jack did his best to convince himself that he was too old and his job was too dangerous for Isabelle. As they faced a hired assassin, Jack finally realizes he can't live without her. They both have to fight to survive before they can see if they can make it together.

I really enjoyed this book and am ready to start catching up on what I missed in this series so I will be ready for the next book. Net Galley provided a copy for honest review.

Watch Me by Cynthia Eden

Though I have read this author before, her other books didn't capture my attention as well as this one. I really enjoyed this story and believe it will be a nice series. I read some reviews which complained about a lack of realism. I agree that a few things might be unlikely though not impossible, however, I don't mind that. I like very realistic books, but I also like an easy read with a sexy alpha guy and plenty of action. This story had not one but four sexy men and action right off the bat. Chance and Gwen have a history which makes their chemistry sizzle. Gwen is determined to stay out from under her father's control, and doesn't plan to hand over the reins to Chance either despite his obvious capability of protecting her. I liked her spunk and Chance's authoritarian confidence. I thought it was a good read and plan to check out the next book in the series.

Deadly Obsession by Maggie Shayne

This series has quickly become one of my favorites. While this book could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading them in order. The history from the previous books is a big part of what makes this particular story great. Things ended awkwardly between Mason and Rachel in the last book and started that way in this story. Rachel was struggling with determining what she truly wanted versus what she had simply imagined at one time her life would be. Mason, on the other hand, seems sure what he wants is Rachel despite her struggle to commit. Unfortunately, a heroic act on Mason's part leaves his nephews in need of care and Rachel the only one trusted to provide it. Over the course of the story, Rachel grows and changes so much. She realizes how lonely her life is without Mason and his boys, while Mason attempts to give her the space he believes she needs. Among all this, danger lurks. A stalker has become obsessed with Mason and believes the only way to have him is to get rid of anyone her loves...like Rachel and his nephews. With Mason injured and the boys' mentally ill mother on the loose, matters quickly become dangerously complicated.

I really enjoyed this novel. My favorite aspect of this series is the realism. The action and suspense are always great, but within the believable constraints of reality. The way Rachel and Mason work to form an unconventional family while coping with major life changing events is great to read. I appreciate Net Galley providing an advance copy for honest review.

Gut Instinct by Barb Han

This was my first book by this author. I found it to be a quick easy read with a lot of action. I liked the idea of a formerly married couple finding each other again, especially since their separation was based on removable though difficult issues. I liked the characters of Luke and Julie and many of the secondary characters as well, though I would have liked to have seen more development there- especially with Luke's brothers. In the end, I liked how Julie fought her own battles and didn't sit around waiting for rescue.
