Conard County Marine by Rachel Lee

After a vicious attack resulting in loss of the last three years worth of memories, Kylie returns to her hometown to stay with her sister and get back on her feet. She plans to take some time alone to recuperate since being around people makes her nervous.  Her plans and her equilibrium are shaken when she arrives home to find that her sister has a guest. Coop is in town visiting his sister and her family while on leave from the Marines. With his sister's house packed full, he accepts the offer to stay with friends. When Kylie arrives, Coop immediately clues in to her skittishness around him. He gives her a wide berth at first, but gradually the two connect over his ability to relate to her emotions and fears. When it becomes clear that someone might want to make sure Kylie never remembers what happened to her, Coop is determined to ensure her safety.

Coop is a Marine, so obviously he is tough, but he is also very understanding, considerate, and patient with Kylie. Kylie grows and changes with Coop's help and eventually becomes more of her former self with confidence in becoming her new self. The story had a lot of sweet moments mixed in with the suspense and budding romance.

I received an ARC from Net Galley for review.
