Protecting His Assets by J.K. Coi

I chose this book because I like the publisher. Although I usually read their Ignite titles, I liked the cover for this one. I'm glad I gave it a try, because it turned out really well. I like the characters , and the story had a nice pace.

Steve is a very driven business owner. In the past, his family had been very prestigious, but his father's poor business decisions left them in ruin. Steve is determined to do everything he can to bring his family back into a position of power. On the other hand, April has been hurt by power. Her former boyfriend was an up and coming figure in the world of power, and she thought she was included in his circle of friends. At least she thought she was, until she overheard him talk about slumming it with her to his buddies. She decided then and there to never date anyone else in that circle. In fact, at the beginning she has more disdain for Steve then she does chemistry. Although Steve is attracted to her from the beginning, he makes comments about her clothing which lead her to believe he is no different than her ex. Since April has a job to do, protecting Steve, she is not worried at all about the lack of chemistry. Unfortunately, Steve is taking everything as a joke and makes her job much harder than it has to be. His thinly veiled innuendos do not endear him to April at first either. The more time the couple spends together, the more they end up genuinely liking each other. The perceived class differences continue to bother April, although Steve could care less. Just as the relationship is heating up, so do issues with the stalker. April is determined to protect Steve at all cost, but Steve is not sure how he should handle wanting to protect his own bodyguard.

I enjoyed this story and will likely check out more books by this author in the future.

I received an ARC from Net Galley for review.
